pathophysiology knowledge reflection

Veterinary physiotherapist work with animals whose function is impacted by the consequences of injury or disease. As physiotherapists we have to understand the disease process, body response to stress and injuries and healing process to make an acceptable assessment and intervention. As a nurse I had the ability to act in what I knew and understood, having critical thinking (Potter et al., n.d.)

Animal pathophysiology is a new topic for me, although I have previously studied human physiopathology. At first, I felt comfortable with this module, but as time went I started to lose my confidence. Which was affecting negatively my outcome as a lack of confidence can be a significant barrier to adult learning (Norman and Hyland, 2003). It was the first time I experience online classes, missing peer and teacher interaction, University facilities and reducing physical socialization. Although it has been shown that there are no significant differences in the learning outcome of student studying online or face to face (Baber, 2020)

After almost finishing the module and having my feedback back from my critical review,  I have to highlight I gain a complex understanding of the disease process. Being able to write about the healing process of bone repair.  After finishing the essay I noticed that I compiled specific knowledge and it was the topic I felt more comfortable with.

I am missing a practical session, which needed to be rearranged due to the COVID pandemic. I do not feel comfortable with the online classes, but having such a well qualified Veterinary surgeon as Roberta it change my perspective of this. All the passion she does put into it and her knowledge it helps me to improve my knowledge and my connection with the subject.

For my critical review, I chose the bone healing process. Unlike most of my classmates, I choose general tissue for my essay. I chose this subject as a wanted to have a better understanding of the physiotherapy techniques port bone fracture.   I was very insecure about this essay which has been shown that a higher perceived cognitive load can negatively impact the ability to generate ideas(Redifer et al., 2021). Also, it was very difficult to summarize all my research in only 1500 words. In the end, I passed the critical review but I was not completely satisfied with the time I used for this assignment. I did have some issues with my time management so I have addressed them in my  Personal Development Plan. My insecurity about doing the critical review was related wit the academic writing level required to pass the assignment. Language research supports the idea of a language threshold for reading and writing below which students are unable to transfer successful reading and writing skills from their first language to the second one (Grabe, 2003)
I have addressed the issue but after thinking about my previous Level 7 course I felt more confident.
